Jardín de Niños FAQ
Please review the frequently asked questions below. If your specific question is not answered, please contact a member of Jardín de Niños Interlingua staff using the contact page.
1. What does our curriculum offer?
At JDNI, we believe in a world that brings people together. We believe in a world that builds on one another’s talent and expertise; a world in which every single daily action is rooted in strong values such as generosity, acceptance, effort, and excellence.
JDNI nourishes cultural diversity that enriches our curriculum, attending the individual needs of all of our students. We deliver a strong curriculum in four languages (Spanish, English, Mandarin and French) that creates a linguistic conscience among our students, creating an appreciation of the diversity of languages. While it is based on the Spanish framework, our curriculum is carefully designed to build on each language’s strengths and cultures. Our work has been recognized by the Mexican Ministry of Education, The International Baccalaureate candidacy program and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The school aims to develop confident young learners with a global outlook in a cross-curricular teaching environment.
2. Why Spanish immersion?
Having proficiency in more than one language has been shown to enhance a child's overall verbal development, heighten creativity, as well as improve cognitive performance in basic skills necessary for elementary international school. Jardín de Niños believes in providing diverse, multicultural experiences to cultivate openness and an appreciation for different cultures. We believe this prepares children to successfully maneuver in a multilingual and multicultural world.
To speak more than one language opens your horizons. With each language, you not only learn to communicate in that language, but also absorb new ways to think. A second or third language also helps you understand different collective personalities, therefore, engendering more open mindedness.
3. Does my child need to know some Spanish before enrolling?
No, it is not necessary for your child to have any Spanish language skills prior to enrollment.
4. What if we don't speak Spanish at home?
More than two-thirds of the children enrolled at Jardín de Niños do not speak Spanish at home. Students have ample time and activities available at school to learn the Spanish language.
5. If my child transfers to public school after attending Jardín de Niños, will he or she be behind, ahead or on target with other children their age?
Your child will be ahead of or on target with other children his/her age. Jardín de Niños integrates Austin Independent School District standards. The difference is the level of depth a subject or theme is covered. We cover themes in depth over the course of six to eight weeks while an average public school may cover the theme in just one lesson.
6. What are the class sizes and staff-pupil ratios?
JNDI provides small classes of 10-15 students. The staff-pupil ratio across the whole school is 1-8.
7. Is the student body diverse?
JDNI embraces multicultural diversity and helps its students to develop an open mind, and healthy respect of the cultural identity of all the students at the school. Our student body is diverse in a number of ways: ethnic, social, cultural, language and economic. This enriches our school community and provides the opportunity for all to adapt to the diverse needs of our students while guaranteeing an equality of opportunities for all.
8. Where does your teaching staff come from?
Our staff is from all over the world. Our members of the school community and its cultures intend to develop an open mind, adopting an appreciation of multiple cultures.
9. How is the parent-teacher community?
We believe that parents and teachers need to work together in order to deliver an excellent education, and we encourage strong participation in the school’s life from our parent body. We foster an environment in which each new member is welcomed as a valued addition. We are proud to promote a culture of academic excellence nourished in a tightly-knit community
10. How is your Global Citizenship perspective?
JDNI aims to form young men and women who are capable of living in fullness and with dignity, assuming personal responsibility, learning to be conscious of the world that surrounds them, and grow to make decisions based on the good of the world and of others, not only for themselves.
11. At what age can my child apply?
We accept children as young as 6 weeks and up to 5th grade.
12. How much is tuition?
Jardín de Niños believes that choosing the right international school for your child should not be cost prohibitive. We offer highly competitive rates that vary by age and schedule. Day care tuition is $542-$1200 per month and elementary school is $930 month. After-school care is available for an additional charge.
13. What extra-curricular activities are offered?
We offer soccer, ballet, tennis, piano, cooking, theater lessons and we continue to seek out programming that may be of interest to our students.

Whether your child is unable to speak Spanish or is very fluent in Spanish, he/she will enhance language skills with exciting, entertaining and life-enhancing adventures through Spanish immersion.
15. How does registration work?
